Family, Adolescents & Pre-adolescents

  • Not quite sure what you are looking for?  Meet with one of Sunshine's professionals and we can help guide your family to a healthy future.

    *  Initial Family Assessments (IFA) will provide you with information on our services, a chance to meet our professionals, and resources and referrals that can best suit the needs of your family.

    Sunshine provides professionals that offer family counseling, individual counseling and support groups.  Sunshine's professionals are skilled in the area of children and adolescents, drug and alcohol issues, divorce and separation and other family issues, behavioral challenges, anger management.  Sunshine works with a team of professionals to meet the needs of each individual family.  If our services are not suitable for your family, we will guide you in the right direction and refer you to an agency that can fit your needs.

    Meet some of Sunshine's professionals:

John Venza, Certified Social Worker

Works with Sunshine Prevention Center on a consultant basis.  John has been working with adolescents and their families for the past 16 years. His work has been both in and outside of NYS in a variety of settings, which include community treatment programs, the juvenile system and school. John is a trainer and student advisor at the Outreach Training Institute. John’s private consulting practice focuses on training and education for schools and community-based programs, specializing in adolescent development, treatment and substance abuse. In January 1998, John was featured on the NEWS 12 television series, “People Making a Difference” for his work with teenagers and their families on Long Island.

Carol Carter, Youth & Family Advocate

working on hier Doctorate in Family Studies.  Carol is Co-founder of Sunshine and is an Alcohol and Drug Counselor and C.P.P. Carol works individually with families to teach and enhance parenting skills, anger management techniques, and family stratagies.  

John Roth – Master’s level Art Therapist

working on his Board Certification.  John joined our staff in 1996 as Art and Recreation Director.  After completing his education, earning his MA in Art Therapy from Marywood University in Scranton Pa, John has come on board as Program Director and Group Facilitator.  He has brought with him extensive knowledge and experience working with children of all ages.  He utilizes his expertise in the field of art and counseling as a tool when working with children.

While Sunshine has a fee for all our services, we work with each family individually.  Sunshine offers discounted rates, sliding scale, alternatives, payment plans, and sponsorships for families-in-need.  Contact us to see if you qualify.
